Passengers
Sometime in the distant future a space ship is launched with over 5000 people on board, who are in sedated state, whose mission is to travel to a colony set up on another planet. The trip itself takes 120 years. 30 years into the flight two people are mysteriously awakened, thus the plot, what to do. Terrific special effects but not very entertaining other than the robot bartender. Jennifer Lawrence stars. 2 bananas

Nocturnal Animals
One of the best movies of the year. Amy Adams , art gallery owner, and Jake Gyllenhaal, budding novelist, are divorced when Adams receives a draft of a novel written by Jake detailing the brutal and gripping murder and rape of Jake's wife and daughter. As the movie switches from present to novel, sub plots are everywhere making this a movie that you'd better bring your A brain to keep up with. The first 5 minutes are bizarre and intriguing only to be out done by the ending.
After viewing I'd suggest going to www.slashfilm.com and enter Nocturnal Animals to see just how much you missed in the movie.
The title refers to people who stay up all night. 3 1/2 bananas

Allied
Brad Pitt teams up with an unknown woman French resistance fighter to assassinate a high level Nazi officer in this WWll drama. Once their job is completed they marry, have a child and he continues to work for the Canadian air force only to be told by his superiors that his wife may be a German spy. Is she or isn't she is the meat of this movie. A couple of very unusual scenes in this spy caper but over all a somewhat dull movie. 2 bananas

Arrival
Amy Adams stars as a linguist brought on by the army to try and communicate with aliens who have arrived in huge egg shaped space ships. Interesting in the fact that communication is so totally different, exactly what it should be from a foreign visitor. Good, fun Sci-Fi movie. 3 bananas

Hacksaw Ridge
True WW2 story of solider who enlists but refuses to carry a gun hoping to become a medic. What follows is the usual rough stuff in training camp but the heroics of private Doss under fire retrieving 75 men left to die is truely amazing. No big name stars makes this movie shine. 3 1/2 bananas

Inferno
Tom Hanks continues his role as professor Langston. This time he is on the trail of a virus so deadly that half the world population will die. Obviously there are evil forces out there doing battle to prevent Hanks from stopping the virus contamination. Hard to figure out who is the good guy for a long time. Beginning and ending are heart stoppers. 2 bananas

Jack Reacher: Never Go Back
2nd movie in the Jack Reacher book series starring Tom Cruise. Reacher is drawn back to his MP days in the military when a Major is jailed to hide a conspiracy at the highest levels. Of all the Reacher books this is one of the weakest. Usual mayhem follows Jack around but Tom Cruise as the 6"4" 240 Reacher is a joke. @ bananas

The Girl on the Train
Emily Blunt is a divorced, depressed, suffering from blackouts alcoholic who rides a commuter train to work every morning and views from her seat her ex as well as others who become entangled in a very confusing murder. While the end is not surprising, getting to it is only because the other two women involved look so much alike. Dark and Dreary sets the tone. 2 1/2 bananas
